One can never have enough perennials in their flower gardens. Quick refresher, a "perennial" is a plant that regrows every year. In other words, plant it, water it, and enjoy it every year. There are so many wonderful choices for perennial flowers in Michigan. Here are five of Timber Oaks' favorite perennials.
1. Daylily
Early to bloom and easy to care for, daylilies put on a big show when planted in masses, and are ideal for adding color along home foundations in front of shrub plantings, or to fill out a perennial garden.
2. Sedum
Most sedum is a hardy, long-lived perennial that comes back reliably for many years. Sedum doesn't require a lot of water and will develop its best colors if they get at least 6 hours of sunlight per day.
3. Coral Bells
The spikes of tall, bell-shaped blooms are where the coral bells get their name and are just as impressive as the foliage color, blooming in late spring to early summer. The flower color varies too, with colors ranging from white and pink to light coral and deep red.
4. Astilbe
Astilbe is a shade-loving perennial that explodes in colorful blooms of fuzzy flowers. It's hardy, easy to grow, and provides a range of color options for the shade garden. Astilbe looks especially great when planted in tight groups.
4. Hosta
Hostas are hardy perennials that require almost no special attention and are perfect for a garden that doesn’t get too much sun. Reliable and easy to grow, hostas are long-lived. They produce funnel-shaped blooms on scapes that arise from the center of the plant.
